JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two members of the Manhattan College men's outdoor track & field team were in action at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday. Phil Ragan (Belmar, N.J.) made his second straight NCAA Preliminary Round appearance in the javelin, while Clement Gicquel (Rennes, France) took part in the high jump at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Competing in the first flight of the javelin, Ragan uncorked a toss of 62.14 meters (203 feet, 10 inches) on his first attempt. That effort moved him into eighth place with two flights remaining. However, Ragan was eventually knocked out of a top-12 qualifying position and ended up 34th overall. The school record-holder in the event, he improved eight spots from his 42nd-place showing in 2014.
In the high jump, Gicquel had easy first-attempt clearances at 1.99 m (6'6¼) and 2.04 m (6'8¼). He was eliminated after missing three times at 2.09 m (6'10¼), though. Overall, Gicquel finished in a tie for 24th place.
On Saturday, Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) makes her third straight NCAA Preliminary Round appearance in the women's hammer throw. The No. 25 seed in the event, she'll be in action at 1:30 p.m.
