LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Manhattan College women's outdoor track & field team won five events and the men's squad also picked up an event win at the Rider Invitational from the Rider University Track & Field Complex on Saturday. The meet was team scored, and the Jasper men finished fourth overall and second among Division I programs, while the women placed sixth overall and fourth in the Division I standings.
Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) took first in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 53.81 meters (176 feet, six inches). Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) added a victory in the women's discus (44.73 m, 146'9) and Katharina Klien (Maeder, Austria), who was fifth in both the shot put (11.68 m, 38'4) and discus (36.38 m, 119'4), earned the win in the women's javelin (40.05 m, 131'5).
Running into a headwind, Doreen Horschig (Lumpzig, Germany) recorded a time of 14.34 seconds to win the women's 100 meter hurdles. In the women's 800 meters, Manhattan went 1-3. Alexa Roda (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the win in 2:18.91, while Janie Turek (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) registered a 2:19.57 clocking to place third. Kathy Cadet (Endicott, N.Y.) was third in the 400 meters (59.02) and fourth in the 200 meters (25.94). Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany), meanwhile, grabbed third place in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.66 m (18'7).
On the men's side, Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) won the discus with a 49.27 m (161'7) throw. He was also fourth in the shot put (14.10 m, 46'3¼). Connor Reilly (Ridgefield, Conn.), meanwhile placed second in the javelin (51.80 m, 169'11), and Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) finished third in the long jump (7.07 m, 23'2½).
Anthony Hall (Mountainville, N.Y.) picked up a pair of top-three finishes in the sprints. He ended up second in the 100 meters with an 11.11-second clocking to go along with a third-place effort in the 200 meters (22.53). Teammate Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) posted a time of 22.24 seconds to secure second place in the 200. In the 110 meter hurdles, Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) took fourth in a time of 15.36 seconds, while Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) placed sixth in 15.58 seconds. Eriksson was also fourth in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 56.57 seconds.
Manhattan also had a handful of competitors entered in the Sun Angel Classic from Arizona State University's Sun Angel Stadium. Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, N.Y.) set a personal-best of 48.39 m (158'9) in the discus, which qualified him for the IC4A Championships. In addition, Phil Ragan (Belmar, N.J.) achieved the qualifying standard for both the IC4A Championships and NCAA East Preliminary Round with his fifth-place performance in the javelin (64.69 m, 212'3).
Next weekend, the Jaspers will compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday and Saturday, as well as the Mark Young Invitational from Yale University on Saturday.
