BOSTON – Manhattan College's Sheldon Derenoncourt (Patchogue, N.Y.) took fifth place in the 500 meters and was a part of the team that also finished fifth in the 4x400 meter relay at the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday. As a team, Manhattan placed 17th with 16.25 points after three days of competition at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
After putting up the third-best time of the preliminary round, Derenoncourt took fifth in the final of the 500 with a time of 1:03.01. In the 4x400 relay, Derenoncourt (47.0) teamed with Justin Alleyne (New Rochelle, N.Y.) (48.7), Joe Martello (Amawalk, N.Y.) (49.3) and Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) (46.6) to register a 3:11.64 clocking, which was good for fifth place. Meanwhile, in the 800 meters, Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) finished ninth in a time of 1:54.95.
The two fifth-place finishes added eight points to Manhattan's team total. Overall, the Jaspers ended up with a score of 16.25 points, placing them 19th as a squad. Monmouth won the IC4A team title with 58 points.
Meanwhile, the women's ECAC Championships also concluded on Sunday. Manhattan didn't have any competitors in action on the final day. The Jaspers tallied nine team points in the ECAC Championships, which put them in a tie for 27th overall. The ECAC team title went to Connecticut with 53 points.
With the ECAC-IC4A Indoor Championships complete, the Jaspers now turn their attention to the outdoor season. Manhattan's first outdoor meets are the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio and Hurricane Invitational in Miami on March 20-21.
