Box Score

DETROIT, Mich. - The Manhattan men's lacrosse team fell to Detroit, 13-7, in each squad's second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest of the season.

With the loss, the Jaspers move to 0-10 overall, including an 0-2 record in conference play. Detroit improves to 5-4, and 1-1 in MAAC play.

The Titans scored the first seven goals of the game to take a commanding 7-0 lead after one quarter of play, but Manhattan battled back the rest of the game to shrink the deficit to as few as five in the fourth quarter before the team's comeback efforts fell short.

Freshman Andrew Gresham (Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada / Pitt Meadows Secondary) opened the Jaspers' scoring on the afternoon with a goal 6:46 into the second quarter. After Detroit tallied twice more, Gresham netted his second of the afternoon and ninth of the year with one second to play in the half.

Manhattan outscored Detroit 3-2 in the third quarter, receiving goals from junior attacker Mike DiPascali (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan), junior midfielder Nick Strano (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) and senior midfielder Andrew Hurst (Babylon, N.Y. / Babylon). Manhattan trailed by six, at 11-5, heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, DiPascali's second and senior co-captain Marcel Godino's (Summit, N.J. / Summit) first brought the score to 12-7, but that is as close as the Jaspers would get.

Manhattan enjoyed balance on the offensive end, with five players contributing to the team's seven goals.

Godino concluded the day tied for a game-high four points (1G, 3A).

Seniors Shayne Adams and Mike Birney led the Titans with four points apiece.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Michael Wiatrak (North Caldwell, N.J. / West Essex Regional) made nine saves for Manhattan and led the team with four ground balls. Senior Max Kerber (Cohoes, N.Y. / Christian Brothers Academy) and juniors DiPascali, Jimmy Rogers (Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) and Darien Bica (Irvington, N.Y. / Dobbs Ferry) finished the afternoon with three ground balls apiece. Kerber also caused a team-high two turnovers.

The Jaspers return to action on Tuesday, March 31, when they host NJIT for a 7 p.m. meeting at Gaelic Park. Manhattan will host the game in conjunction with the charity, Stop Soldier Suicide (SSS). More information, including a full list of activities for the event, will follow in the game preview.

General admission tickets for each men's lacrosse home game can be purchased for $5 apiece on the day of the game. Manhattan students are admitted free with Manhattan College ID.

Fans are not permitted to bring alcohol into Gaelic Park.
