BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's swimming team dropped a 107-96 decision to St. Francis Brooklyn in the squad's final dual meet of the season on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Jaspers conclude their year with a 6-8 overall mark heading into next week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
The 200 medley relay team of senior Kerry Schuermann, sophomores Madison Brown and Sara Buckley and freshman Alexandra Hutzler started the night off right for the Jaspers, as they swam to a first place finish with a time of 1:57.03. The group was the only team to finish the race in under two minutes.
Freshman Hutzler also earned top finishes in two individual events. Her time of 33.28 in the 50 breaststroke was 2.27 seconds faster than her closest competitor. In the 100 breaststroke, Hutzler's time of 1:11.48 earned her a top result by over two and a half seconds.
The Jaspers also enjoyed a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking a 1:45.54 in the event. Junior Michaela Schatz, sophomores Buckley and Patricia Colton and freshman Eileen Blood came away with the victory by 1.41 seconds.
Senior team captains Kim Geissler, Molly Russell and Schuermann were named Manhattan Performers of the Meet in their final dual meet as members of the Jaspers' swimming team.
Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when the team travels to Buffalo to compete in the MAAC Championships.
