FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Manhattan men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-4 decision to Fairfield on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Jaspers fall to 0-3 on the young season. The Stags improve to 2-1 with the victory.

The Stags outscored Manhattan 7-2 in the first half and 8-2 over the final half hour of play to earn a decisive win at Rafferty Stadium.

The Jaspers received goals from senior captain Kevin Cox (Brightwaters, N.Y. / Bayshore), junior Nick Strano (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) and sophomores Alex Abiog (Saratoga, Calif. / Bellarmine College Prep.) and Nick Stutler (Ft. Wright, Ky. / Covington Catholic). Stutler also picked up an assist in the game.

The Fairfield offense was swarming as they fired 50 shots in the contest, forcing the goalkeeping duo of senior Michael Wiatrak (North Caldwell, N.J. / West Essex Regional) and freshman Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas) into making a combined 20 saves in the outing.

Cox and fellow senior captain William Gerard (Spring Lake, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy) collected a team-high four ground balls apiece.

For Fairfield, senior Colin McClinden and junior Charlie Schnider finished with a game-high six points each. McClinden recorded six assists while Schnider registered five goals and one assist. Junior TJ Neubauer compiled five points (3G, 2A) in the contest.

The Jaspers will next play on Tuesday, Feb. 24, when they travel to Long Island for a meeting with Hofstra. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
