PRINCETON, N.J. - The Manhattan men's lacrosse team fell to Princeton, 14-4, in a game at Class of 1952 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Jaspers fall to 0-2 on the season. Princeton improved to 1-0 with the win.
The Tigers used a 5-0 run in the opening quarter to leap out to a lead they would not surrender. Princeton received goals from five different scorers over the stretch.
Sophomore Alex Abiog (Saratoga, Calif. / Bellarmine College Prep) put the Jaspers on the board in the opening minute of the second quarter to make it a 5-1 game. Junior Jimmy Rogers (Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) recorded an assist on the play.
After a 3-0 Princeton run over the next 13 minutes, Rogers struck with 26 seconds to play in the half to make the score 8-2 Princeton at the break.
The Tigers outscored Manhattan 6-0 in the third quarter, but the Jaspers answered back in the fourth with the only two goals of the final frame.
Senior captain Marcel Godino (Summit, N.J. / Summit) buried a man-up goal with 2:09 remaining. Freshman Wes Schuler (Coto de Caza, Calif. / Santa Margarita Catholic) picked up his first collegiate point with an assist on the play.
Freshman Andrew Gresham (Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada / Pitt Meadows Secondary) tallied his second goal of the year with 1:18 to play to make it 14-4.
Senior Andrew Hurst (Babylon, N.Y. / Babylon) grabbed two assists in the contest.
Senior captain William Gerard (Spring Lake, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy) collected a game-high six ground balls in the outing.
Freshman Ken Braun (Mahwah, N.J. / Mahwah) led the Jaspers' back line with two caused turnovers.
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 21, when the team hosts Fairfield for a 5 p.m. contest at Gaelic Park.
