Four Jaspers Compete In Millrose Games Weight Throw

NEW YORK – The 108th Millrose Games got underway on Thursday with the men's and women's weight throw competitions at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center.  Manhattan College was well-represented in the event, with three men and one woman in the field.

Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) took part in the women's event for the second consecutive year.  Her best effort was 16.98 meters (55 feet, 8½ inches), which was good for eighth place overall.  Jeneva McCall, a two-time World Championships participant for the United States, earned the win with a throw of 23.45 m (76'11¼).

Meanwhile, three of the eight competitors on the men's side were current Jaspers.  Love Litzell (Ostersund, Sweden) was Manhattan's top finisher.  He placed fifth with a personal-best mark of 18.55 m (60'10 ½).  Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, N.Y.) took sixth with an 18.35 m (60'2½)-effort, and Killian Barry (Dublin, Ireland) was seventh with a toss of 16.40 m (53'9¾).  The winner of the event was Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Famer Jake Freeman, who got out to a distance of 20.76 m (68'1½).  Freeman is now a nine-time Millrose Games champion.

On Saturday, Manhattan's men's 4x400 meter relay squad will run at the Millrose Games at 4:30 p.m.  The Jaspers will also be in action at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational, which gets underway at 9 a.m.
