RIVERDALE, N.Y. – On Friday, the Manhattan College men's and women's indoor track & field teams began the 2014-15 season with the annual Manhattan College Opener at Draddy Gymnasium.  The Jaspers performed well in the low-key meet, posting several qualifying marks for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.

The men's team boasted four IC4A qualifiers.  Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, N.Y.) achieved the standard in the weight throw, getting out to 17.29 meters (56 feet, 8¾ inches).  Pocesta also won the shot put with an effort of 14.31 m (46'11½).  Savio Paul (Yonkers, N.Y.) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the pole vault (4.90 m, 16'0¾), as did Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.) in the triple jump (14.64 m, 48'0½).  The fourth IC4A-qualifying mark was turned in by Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia), who long jumped 7.09 m (23'3¼).

There was also a pair of ECAC-qualifying efforts on the women's side.  Marisa Robbins (Goshen, N.Y.) won the pole vault with a personal-best leap of 3.70 m (12'1½).  In addition, Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) easily qualified in the weight throw (17.02 m, 55'10¼).  Katharina Klien (Maeder, Austria), meanwhile, finished first in the shot put with a mark of 11.63 m (38'2).  On the track, Kathy Cadet (Endicott, N.Y.) won the 300 meters in a time of 41.9 seconds and Doreen Horschig (Lumpzig, Germany) took third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.70).

Most of the male sprinters did not compete on Friday.  Instead, the sprit group will open the season at Saturday's Yale Season Opener.
