Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Fueled by a pair of first-half goals, Fairfield defeated Manhattan 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at Gaelic Park.

With the victory, the Stags improve to 11-3-1 and 5-1 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 6-6-2 and 1-3-2 in the league.

Faith Daley opened the scoring with a goal off a pass from Ashley Small in the 12th minute before Pam Coufos extended the Fairfield advantage out to 2-0 off a cross from Karolyn Collins in the 37th minute.

After halftime, the Stags continued to control the action but were unable to further dent the scoreboard thanks to the stellar play of freshman Becca Vitale (Branford, Conn. / Branford). The rookie turned away a pair of point-blank Fairfield opportunities en route to notching five saves in her first career start.

Senior Aislinn McIlvenny (Pleasant Valley, N.Y. / Arlington) recorded the lone Manhattan shot on goal as the Stags outshot the Jaspers by a 13-2 count thanks in large part to a 9-0 differential in corner kicks.

Kathleen Early (10-2-1) earned the win for Fairfield, making one save.

Manhattan travels to Rider on Saturday, Oct. 18 with opening kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m.
