NEW YORK – Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) won the women's weight throw to lead the Manhattan College indoor track & field team at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic on Friday. Wehrli had a winning toss of 17.35 meters (56 feet, 11¼ inches), as the Jaspers sent a handful of competitors to the meet at the NewBalanceArmoryTrack & FieldCenter.
In addition to Wehrli, Manhattan had entries in the women's shot put, men's 3000 meters, men's 5000 meters, men's shot put and men's weight throw.
Lina Bengtson (Malmo, Sweden) placed seventh in the women's shot put (13.41 m, 44'0), while Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) was seventh on the men's side (15.34 m, 50'4). On the track, meanwhile, Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) posed a time of 15:15.59 in the men's 5000, good for third place.
Despite the limited number of entries, Manhattan received points for the team standings in the scored meet. The Jasper women were 15th with the 14 points earned by Wehrli and Bengtson, while the men's team finished 16th with 13 points.
The Jaspers will be back at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center on Saturday, when the remainder of the squad competes in the NYU Saturday Night Shootout. Competition gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
