OAKDALE, N.Y. – It was a good day for the Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams on Saturday. Both squads captured the team championship at the St. John's/Hofstra Fall Festival. The men collected 41 points to hold off second-place Seton Hall, which posted a total of 48, while the women's squad finished with 45 points, six more than Seton Hall.
The men once again raced over a short course, running 5000 meters. Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) led the Jaspers, finishing second overall and first among Division I runners in a time of 15:35.60. Stephen Chantry (Williamsburg, Va.) was Manhattan's second finisher. He placed seventh in 15:58.80. Shane Beyer (Brick, N.J.) posted a time of 16:01.90, good for ninth place, while Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) took 11th in 16:10.10. Rounding out the Jaspers' top seven were Josh Perez (Marlton, N.J.) in 13th place (16:14.90), Tom Bonaro (Pearl River, N.Y.) in 19th (16:42.40) and Salim Corbin (Patterson, N.J.) in 22nd (16:48.00).
On the women's side, Milena Stoicev (Nis, Serbia) was the top Division I finisher, and fourth overall, in the 4000-meter race. She posted a time of 15:23.08. Katie Saroka (Blue Point, N.Y.) secured seventh place in 16:04.94, while Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was ninth in 16:13.56. Janie Turek (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) crossed the line in 12th place, notching a 16:32.36 clocking, and Alyssa Windle (Redlands, Calif.) took 16th in 16:43.43. Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) (19th, 16:54.34) and Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) (23rd, 17:06.06) completed the Jaspers' top seven.
Manhattan will head to Long Island for the third straight weekend next Saturday, when the Jaspers participate in the LIU Post Invitational.
