EUGENE, Ore. – In just his sixth meet as a member of the Manhattan College track & field team, Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France) competed in the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field on Friday evening. Koita cleared 2.15 meters (seven feet, ½ inch) to place 16th overall.
Koita cleared the opening height of 2.05 m (6'8¾) on his first attempt, then got over the bar on his second jump at 2.10 m (6'10¾). He had another miss at 2.15 m (7'0½) before clearing on his second attempt. The bar was then raised to 2.20 m (7'2½), which would've equaled his school record, but Koita was eliminated at that height.
Indiana's Derek Drouin, the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, won the National Championship with a leap of 2.34 m (7'8). Defending champion Erik Kynard of KansasState, who captured the silver in London, was second (2.31 m, 7'7).
With his 16th-place finish, Koita earned Second Team All-America status. He becomes the 30th Jasper All-American in Dan Mecca's 20-year tenure as head coach.
