BOSTON - Manhattan College claimed its third individual title in as many days at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships from Boston University's Track and Tennis Center on Sunday. Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) won the 1000 meters to help the Jaspers finish fourth overall as a team.
Rojeras was one of two Jaspers in the final of the 1000 meters. He posted a time of 2:24.05. Kevin D'Emic (Rockaway Point, N.Y.), in his final race in a Manhattan uniform, added two team points with a seventh-place finish. His time was 2:27.51.
The Jaspers also had a pair of competitors in the men's pole vault. Tom Bechert (Munich, Germany) and Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) both cleared 4.95 meters (16 feet, 2¾ inches) on their first attempt, which resulted in them tying for third place. Those 11 points, plus the 12 by Rojeras and D'Emic in the 1000 gave Manhattan a total of 35 team points, just 2.5 behind third-place Boston University. Connecticut claimed the IC4A team title with 104 points.
Andrea Nyback (Koping, Sweden), who won the pentathlon on Friday, contested the open long jump on Sunday and placed 10th overall, leaping 5.55 m (18'2½). With the 10 points she earned in the heptathlon, Manhattan tied for 32nd place in the team standings. Connecticut collected 60.5 points to win the women's ECAC crown.
The ECAC/IC4A Championships marked the conclusion of the indoor season for the Jaspers. Manhattan begins the outdoor campaign with its annual trip to the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on March 15-16.
