Manhattan (6-15, 3-7 MAAC) continues its three-game homestand with a matchup against Siena (8-13, 4-6 MAAC) tonight at Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers notched a 54-51 victory over Canisius on Sunday afternoon, while the Saints dropped a 53-37 decision at Loyola on Saturday. Siena won the first meeting between these teams this season, 62-55, in Albany on Jan. 13. Up next, Manhattan hosts Fairfield on Sunday afternoon on "National Girls and Women In Sports Day."
ABOUT THE JASPERS
The Jaspers (6-15, 3-7 MAAC) snapped a four-game losing streak with a 54-51 victory over Canisius on Sunday afternoon. Junior guard Monica Roeder tallied 19 points against Canisius and leads Manhattan with 12.0 points per game. She drains 2.0 three-pointers per outing, the second-most in the conference. Senior forward Toni-Ann Lawrence contributes 8.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, while freshman forward Shayna Ericksen tallies 8.2 points and a team-best 7.2 boards a night. Ericksen also paces the Jaspers in blocks (1.0 bpg) and is tied for the team lead in steals (2.0 spg). Junior guard Allison Skrec paces the MAAC with 4.4 assists per game. She's also tied for the team lead with 2.0 steals per contest to go along with 8.0 points per outing. Manhattan concludes its three-game homestand with "National Girls and Women In Sports Day" against Fairfield on Sunday.
ABOUT THE SAINTS
Siena (8-13, 4-6 MAAC) has dropped three out of four, including a 53-37 loss at Loyola on Saturday, and currently sits seventh in the MAAC standings. Senior forward Lily Grenci, a Preseason First Team All-MAAC choice, ranks second in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding. She tallies 15.2 points and 9.0 boards a night. Junior forward Clara Sole Anglada contributes 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, and sophomore guard Tehresa Coles registers 9.0 points per contest. Sole Anglada is the Saints' top three-point shooter, draining 1.3 treys a night, while Coles adds 1.6 assists per outing. Coles also leads the MAAC and ranks 18th nationally in steals, averaging 3.2 per contest. Sophomore guard/forward Ida Krogh hands out 3.0 assists per game to go along with 6.3 points per outing. As a team, Siena is 20th in the nation in free throw percentage (.754). The Saints return home on Sunday for a matchup with first-place Marist.
SERIES HISTORY
Siena notched a 62-55 victory over the Jaspers at the Times Union Center on Jan. 13 and has won three straight in the series, including a matchup in last year's MAAC Tournament quarterfinals. Manhattan's last win over Siena was a 56-53 triumph at Draddy Gymnasium on Feb. 2, 2012. The Jaspers and Saints have split the regular season series in each of the last three campaigns. This is the 55th meeting between the squads all-time, with the Saints leading the series 35-19.
LAST GAME--Manhattan 54, Canisius 51
Toni-Ann Lawrence got a key steal, then drained a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to seal the Jaspers' 54-51 victory over Canisius at Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. The Jaspers led 52-51 when Canisius grabbed a rebound with 28 seconds left. The Griffs held for one shot, but Lawrence forced the turnover to secure the victory for Manhattan. The Jaspers stormed out of the gate, jumping out to a 15-2 lead, but Canisius rallied all the way back and trailed by just three, 28-25, at halftime. The sides traded leads throughout the second half, but Manhattan went on the last run, scoring the final four points of the game after Canisius went up 51-50, to earn the win. Monica Roeder led Manhattan with 19 points, while Lawrence added 12 points and Ashley Stec contributed 10 points. Shayna Ericksen grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the win.
