NEW HAVEN, Conn. While a majority of the Manhattan College indoor track & field team began the season at Friday's Manhattan College Opener, a handful of Jasper sprinters made the trip to Connecticut for the Yale Season Opener from Coxe Cage on Saturday.  Sheldon Derenoncourt (Patchogue, N.Y.) led the way with a first-place finish in the 500 meters.

Derenoncourt ran a personal-best time of 1:05.72 to lead three Jaspers in the top six of the 500.  Making his Manhattan debut, Mike DeAngelis (Rahway, N.J.) was fourth in 1:07.25, while Joe Martello (Amawalk, N.Y.) took sixth in 1:08.10.  That trio then joined with Anthony Hall (Mountainville, N.Y.) to place second in the 4x400 meter relay.  Derenoncourt notched a 48.5-second clocking on the anchor leg, as Manhattan's total time was 3:22.79.

In addition, Hall and Abdias Myrtil (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) finished third and fourth in the 200 meters.  Hall posted a time of 22.63 seconds, with Myrtil just behind in 22.64.  Myrtil was also fourth in the 60 meters (7.07).  Ieva Vitola (Jekabpils, Latvia), meanwhile, took fifth in the women's 60, recording a time of 7.93 seconds.

The Jaspers have one meet remaining in 2013.  Manhattan hosts the Brother Jasper Invitational at Draddy Gymnasium beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday.
