RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan College men's and women's indoor track & field teams kicked off the 2013-14 season with the annual Manhattan College Opener at Draddy Gymnasium on Friday. In a low-key meet, several Jaspers turned in fine performances, including five ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks.
Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the shot put, winning the competition with a toss of 15.79 meters (51 feet, 9¾ inches). Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.) won the triple jump, qualifying for the IC4A Championships with a leap of 14.58 m (47'10). Also achieving an IC4A qualifier was Justin Farrenkopf (Ellenville, N.Y.) in the pole vault. His winning leap was 4.80 m (15'9).
Other winners on the men's side were Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France) in the high jump (1.94 m, 6'4¼), Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) in the long jump (6.38 m, 20'11¼), Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, N.J.) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.3), Jacob Adams (Yonkers, N.Y.) in the mile (4:29.3) and Stephen Chantry (Williamsburg, Va.) in the 3000 meters (9:25.0).
Qualifying for the women's ECAC Championships were Lydia Wehrli (Anieres, Switzerland) and Ida Virdebrant (Nobbele, Sweden). Wehrli won the weight throw with a best effort of 16.47 m (54'0½), while Virdebrant's winning leap in the high jump was 1.70 m (5'7).
Marisa Robbins (Goshen, N.Y.), Sarah Moore (Irvington, N.Y.) and Breanna Brucher (Glen Spey, N.Y.) all cleared 3.30 m (10'10) in the women's pole vault, with Robbins being awarded the win on misses. On the track, Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) took first in the mile (5:27.7) and Claudia Roberts (Bridgewater, N.J.) won the 60 meters (8.1).
The Jaspers will send a select number of competitors to the Yale Season Opener on Saturday. The next home meet is the two-day Brother Jasper Invitational, which begins at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.
