Day One Recap

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – A pair of Manhattan College indoor track & field records fell on Sunday, as the Brother Jasper Invitational concluded at Draddy Gymnasium.  Competing in the first indoor meet of his career, Mohamed Koita (Cergy, France) broke the indoor school mark in the men's high jump to go along with his outdoor record.  The indoor school record in the women's high jump also fell, with Ida Virdebrant (Nobbele, Sweden) establishing the new standard.

Koita, an All-American outdoors in 2013, leaped 2.19 meters (seven feet, 2¼ inches) on Sunday, one centimeter than the previous school mark set by Joseph Sciuto in 1997.  That effort was also the No. 1 performance in the NCAA on this young season.  Virdenbrant, meanwhile, currently boasts the No. 2 mark in the NCAA.  Her 1.79 m (5'10½) clearance shattered the old record of 1.73 m (5'8) previously held by Cheryl Drechsel and Caitlyn Kjolhede.

Sunday also featured a full slate of running events.  Anthony Hall (Mountainville, N.Y.) grabbed first place in the men's 60 meters (7.14) while also finishing second in the 200 meters (22.73).  On the women's side, Kathy Cadet (Endicott, N.Y.) took first in the 60 meter hurdles (9.31) to go along with a second-place showing in the 200 (26.26) and a fourth-place finish in the 60 (8.09).  Ieva Vitola (Jekabpils, Latvia) was second in the 60, notching a time of 8.00 seconds.

In the women's mile, Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) grabbed second place with a 5:24.00 clocking.  Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) secured second place in the men's 3000 meters, finishing in 8:57.75.  In addition, Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.) placed third in the triple jump (13.99 m, 45'10¾) and Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany), who was seventh after Day One, ended up second in the heptathlon, collecting 4791 points.

The Brother Jasper Invitational concluded the December portion of Manhattan's schedule.  The Jaspers return to action at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday, Jan. 10, followed by the Army Five-Way Meet the following day.
