Women's ECAC Championships Results
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – On Saturday morning, the Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams concluded their 2013 seasons by taking part in the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Both teams competed in the University Division, with the Jasper men finishing 12th as a team and the women's squad taking 15th place overall.
Because of the number of schools in the ECAC/IC4A, the competition is divided into the Championship Division and the University Division. Manhattan was entered in the University Division, which features a five-mile race for men and a 5000-meter event for women. The men's race was the IC4A Championships, while the women's competition was sponsored by the ECAC.
Capping his fine season, Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) took 12th place on the men's side. He finished in a time of 26:21.4. Lucas Bittigkoffer (Neulingen, Germany) was the next Jasper across the line. He took 51st overall in 26:58.2. Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) captured 62nd place in 27:11.6, while Salim Corbin (Patterson, N.J.) was 64th in 27:13.8. Kevin O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.), meanwhile, posted a time of 27:45.3, which was good for 89th place. Also running for the Jaspers on Saturday were Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.Y.) (103rd, 28:12.3) and Stephen Chantry (Williamsburg, Va.) (110th, 28:27.3).
Manhattan earned 278 points in the team standings. Led by individual winner Jonathan Annelli, Fordham captured the team title with 77 points. In the Championship Division, Georgetown's Jonathan Murray took first place and the Hoyas took first in the team standings.
In the women's ECAC race, Milena Stoicev (Nis, Serbia) finished 39th in a time of 19:27.7. Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) secured 52nd place in 19:45.0, while Katie Saroka (Blue Point, N.Y.) was 68th in 20:12.6. Alyssa Windle (Redlands, Calif.), who was Manhattan's top finisher at this meet last season, crossed the line in 81st place, registering a time of 20:37.4. Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) (94th, 21:07.9), Meghan Hayes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (97th, 21:13.7) and Christina Sakowski (Cicero, N.Y.) (98th, 21:17.5) rounded out the Jaspers' top seven on the women's side.
As a team, the Jaspers collected 334 points. Pittsburgh tallied 83 points to claim the team title, while Sacred Heart's Brianna Castrogiovanni was the individual champion. Georgetown, which also sent a team to the NCAA Championships (and finished fifth), placed five runners in the top 10 to win the Championship Division. George Mason's Bethany Sachtleban was the individual winner in the Championship Division.
With the cross country season complete, the Jaspers will now shift their attention to the indoor campaign. The annual Manhattan College Opener will be held on Friday, Dec. 6 at Draddy Gymansium.
