ABOUT THE GAME
The Jaspers (5-13, 2-5 MAAC) conclude the season series with Saint Peter's (0-18, 0-7 MAAC) this afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium. Manhattan opened conference play with a 73-66 victory over the Peacocks on Jan. 3. The Jaspers enter today's contest looking to snap a two-game skid. Manhattan suffered a 60-39 loss to first-place Marist on Friday afternoon. Saint Peter's is still looking for its first win of the 2012-13 season. In their last game, the Peacocks dropped a 74-51 decision to Rider on Thursday night.
ABOUT THE JASPERS
Manhattan (5-13, 2-5 MAAC), which has lost two straight, is looking to rebound after dropping a 60-39 decision to first-place Marist on Friday afternoon. Junior guard Monica Roeder paces the Jaspers with 11.6 points per game. She currently ranks second in the MAAC in three-point field goals, draining 2.0 per contest. Senior forward Toni-Ann Lawrence ranks second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 8.8 points and 6.1 boards a night. Lawrence also collects 1.7 steals per game. Freshman forward Shayna Ericksen contributes 8.7 points and a team-leading 7.3 rebounds per outing to go along with 1.9 steals and 1.1 blocks a night. Junior guard Allison Skrec hands out a team-high 4.2 assists per game, including a conference-best 5.0 per outing in MAAC play, while also chipping in 7.0 points per contest. The Jaspers visit Rider on Thursday before returning home for three straight.
ABOUT THE PEACOCKS
Saint Peter's (0-18, 0-7 MAAC) is still looking for its first victory of the 2012-13 season. The Peacocks are coming off a 74-51 loss at Rider on Thursday night. Senior forward Kristal Edwards is the Peacocks' leading scorer. She tallies 13.0 points per game. Edwards also ranks second on the squad in assists (2.1 apg) and steals (2.6 spg), and her 4.9 rebounds per outing are the third-most on the team. Junior guard Aziza May contributes 10.1 points and a team-leading 3.9 assists per contest, while senior forward Kaydine Bent tallies 8.3 points per game to go along with a team-best 7.0 rebounds a night. Senior forward Jesika Holmes grabs 6.9 rebounds per game and ranks second in the MAAC with 2.9 steals per contest. Freshman center Hala Mostafa leads the Peacocks in blocks, averaging 1.3 per outing. Saint Peter's returns home for its next two contests, starting with a matchup against Fairfield on Friday night.
SERIES HISTORY
Manhattan has won seven straight against Saint Peter's, including a 73-66 triumph in Jersey City on Jan. 3. The Peacocks' last victory over the Jaspers was a 56-55 decision on Feb. 23, 2009. The current string represents the Jaspers' longest winning streak in the history of the series, which dates back to Manhattan's first season of varsity play in 1978-79. Overall, this is the 74th meeting between the Jaspers and Peacocks, and Saint Peter's leads the all-time series 50-23.
LAST GAME--Marist 60, Manhattan 39
In the "MAAC National Game of the Week" on ESPN3, the Jaspers hung with first-place Marist for a half before the Red Foxes pulled away for a 60-39 victory at Draddy Gymnasium on Friday afternoon. Manhattan scored the first eight points of the game before Marist rallied to tie it at 8-8. The Red Foxes led by one, 21-20 at intermission, then extended their lead to five early in the second half. After Monica Roeder sank a three-pointer to trim the margin to two, 25-23, with 18:00 remaining, Marist went on a 19-2 run to open up a 44-25 advantage. Nicole Isaacs scored eight straight points to bring the Jaspers within 13, but the Red Foxes countered with a 12-0 rally to take their biggest lead of the game, a 60-35 advantage. Manhattan scored the final four points of the 60-39 loss. Isaacs led the way offensively with 11 points, while Ashley Stec had 10 points for the Jaspers.
