NEW YORK - The Manhattan College men's indoor track & field team sent seven competitors to the Albany Great Dane Classic at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center on Friday afternoon. Despite the limited number of entrants, the Jaspers performed well, collecting 16 points to finish 13th in the team standings.
Manhattan entered athletes in three events-the pole vault, weight throw and 1000 meters. In the pole vault, Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) grabbed second place with a leap of 5.05 meters (16 feet, 6¾ inches). Meanwhile, Anastas Papazov (Balchik, Bulgaria) was third overall and second among collegians in the weight throw. His top mark was 18.48 m (60'7¾). In addition, Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) won the 1000 meters in a time of 2:24.67, less than a second off the school record. Kevin D'Emic (Rockaway Point, N.Y.) also qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 1000, finishing sixth in 2:29.81.
On Saturday, the rest of the squad heads to the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center for the NYU Team Challenge. Competition gets underway at 6 p.m.
