ABOUT THE GAME
The 2012-13 season reaches the halfway point, as Manhattan (4-10, 1-2 MAAC) looks to snap its two-game losing streak this afternoon against Siena (4-10, 0-3 MAAC) at the Times Union Center. The Jaspers are coming off a 76-46 loss at Iona on Thursday, while the Saints have dropped four straight, including a 66-59 decision against Fairfield in their last outing. This is Manhattan's second straight road game, and five of the Jaspers' last seven contests have been away from home.
ABOUT THE JASPERS
The Jaspers (4-10, 1-2 MAAC) are looking to rebound after two straight losses and get back to .500 in conference play. Manhattan suffered a 76-46 defeat at Iona on Thursday afternoon. Junior guard Monica Roeder paces the Jaspers in scoring with an average of 11.2 points per game. Roeder drains 2.1 three-pointers per outing, which ranks her third in the MAAC. Freshman forward Shayna Ericksen is second on the team in scoring (9.7 ppg), while also leading Manhattan in rebounding (7.7 rpg), blocks (1.1 bpg) and steals (2.1 spg). Senior forward Toni-Ann Lawrence adds 8.9 points and 5.6 rebounds a night, and junior guard Allison Skrec hands out a team-high 4.4 assists per outing. Today's matchup concludes a span where the Jaspers played five of seven games on the road. Manhattan plays six of its next eight at Draddy Gymnasium, starting with an 11 a.m. "Kid's Day" showdown with Loyola on Friday.
ABOUT THE SAINTS
Siena (4-10, 0-3 MAAC), under the direction of first-year Head Coach Ali Jaques, is still looking for its first MAAC win after a 66-59 loss to Fairfield on Thursday. The Saints have dropped four straight overall. Senior forward Lily Grenci, a First Team All-MAAC selection last season, is Siena's leading scorer and rebounder. She averages 14.0 points and 9.1 boards per contest, which places her third in the MAAC in each category. Junior forward Clara Sole Anglada contributes 9.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She also drains 1.5 treys per outing, the most on the squad. Sophomore guard Tehresa Coles ranks second in the MAAC in steals (3.0 spg) and free throw percentage (.875) while also pouring in 8.7 points per game. Sophomore guard/forward Ida Krogh distributes a team-leading 2.3 assists per contest. The Saints visit Saint Peter's on Thursday night for a matchup that will be shown live on ESPN3.
SERIES HISTORY
Siena won two of the three meetings between the squads last season, including a 34-33 triumph in the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Jaspers and Saints have split the regular season series in each of the past three campaigns, with each side winning at home in 2011-12. The last time Manhattan and Siena played at the Times Union Center, the Jaspers came away with a 48-45 victory on Feb. 2, 2011. Overall, Siena holds a 34-19 edge in the all-time series.
LAST GAME--Iona 76, Manhattan 46
Iona used a 17-4 run midway through the first half to seize control en route to a 76-46 victory over the Jaspers at the Hynes Athletic Center on Thursday afternoon. The Gaels scored the first seven points of the game before Manhattan went on an 8-2 rally to pull within one at 9-8. However, Iona rallied for nine of the next 11 points. After a layup by Allison Skrec brought the Jaspers within six, 18-12, at the 6:05 mark, The Gaels scored eight points in less than a minute to increase their cushion to 14 points. Iona ended the half on a 12-4 spurt to take a 38-21 lead into the locker room, and the Gaels maintained a comfortable margin throughout the second half, securing a 76-46 victory. Skrec, Toni-Ann Lawrence and Shayna Ericksen combined for 36 of Manhattan's 46 points. Skrec had a career-high 14 points, while Lawrence added 12 points and Ericksen contributed 10 points.
