RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Facing some of the stiffest competition they'll face this year, the Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams ran a full-course distance for the first time this season at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday morning.  Led by Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.), the women's team secured ninth place overall.  The Jasper men, meanwhile, finished 14th.

In stark contrast to last weekend's Fordham Fiasco, the weather on Saturday couldn't have been better.  The sun was shining and the temperature was in the low 70s, with a slight breeze at the runners' backs.  It was perfect weather for running, which was reflected in some fast times.

Cappello completed the 6000-meter race in 24:57.95, good for 46th place.  Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) was the next Jasper across the line.  She placed 49th in 25:10.05.  Alyssa Windle (Redlands, Calif.) took 53rd in 25:22.69, while Rachel Lottermann (Washington Township, N.J.) grabbed 56th place (25:44.28).  Erica Brady (Quincy, Mass.) finished just behind Lottermann.  She ended up 57th overall in 25:49.37.  Rounding out Manhattan's top seven were Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) (74th, 26:54.12) and Katie O'Connell (Staten Island, N.Y.) (78th, 27:30.63).

Manhattan collected 261 points in the team competition to just edge out Siena (264) for ninth place.  Army paced the women's field with 63 points.

Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the Manhattan men.  He finished the 8000-meter course in 26:49.45 to place 51st overall.  Shane Beyer (Brick, N.J.) placed 69th in 27:37.74, and Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) secured 72nd place in a time of 27:44.54.  Nathan Kotch (Tappan, N.Y.) posted a time of 28:15.65, good enough for 86th place, while Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) ended up 91st in 28:32.35.  Jacob Adams (Yonkers, N.Y.) (92nd, 28:51.59) and Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.) (93rd, 29:05.31) completed the Jaspers' top seven.

The men's squad tallied 369 points in the team standings.  Brown, which is ranked No. 7 in the Northeast Region, won the meet with 44 points.

After taking next weekend off, both the men's and women's teams will be back in action at the Paul Short Invitational from Lehigh University on Friday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m.
