Ewald's best toss of the day was 51.72 meters (169 feet, 8¼ inches). In the hammer throw, Papazov took seventh place with a top effort of 62.84 m (206'2). Former Manhattan star Jake Freeman was fourth with a distance of 68.86 m (225'11). Michael Mai won the event with a 74.01 m (242'9¾)-effort.
In addition, Edward Brentnall (Atlanta, Ga.) contested the 6 kg hammer on Saturday and had a best mark of 59.70 m (195'10¼).
Manhattan will be sending three athletes to Regionals this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. Ewald is entered in the discus and Papazov is in the hammer throw, while Albert Johnson III (Painted Post, N.Y.) will compete in the long jump. The top 12 finishers in each event at Regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships.
