JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Badly in need of a win, the Manhattan College women's basketball team got exactly what it was looking for on Sunday.  The Jaspers (10-11, 4-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) led from start to finish, snapping their three-game losing streak with a 62-36 triumph over Saint Peter's (2-18, 2-7 MAAC) at the Yanitelli Center.

Manhattan scored the first seven points of the game, prompting a Saint Peter's timeout after Monica Roeder (Marlton, N.J.) nailed a trey at the 17:19 mark.  The Peahens missed 13 of their first 14 shots, allowing the Jaspers to build a 13-2 lead barely eight minutes in.  Saint Peter's chipped away, though, and trimmed its deficit to five, 20-15, with 3:49 remaining before halftime.  However, the Jaspers ended the half the way they started it, scoring seven straight points to take a 27-15 advantage into the locker room.

Saint Peter's scored six of the first eight points in the second half to get back within eight at 29-21, but the Jaspers responded with eight points in a minute to push the margin to 16 points, 37-21.  A Lindsey Loutsenhizer (North Huntingdon, Pa.) jumper started the rally, then Roeder drained a trey and Schyanne Halfkenny (Hyde Park, Mass.) converted a traditional three-point play at the 16:03 mark.

The Peahens scored the next four points to trim its deficit to 12 before Manhattan again tallied seven points in a minute, getting a three-pointer from Roeder sandwiched between buckets by Loutsenhizer and Halfkenny.  The lead reached 20 points when a trey by Allison Skrec (Roselle, N.J.) made it 49-28 midway through the second half.  Manhattan ended the game on a 9-0 rally, including four points by Nicole Isaacs (Fair Haven, N.J.) in the final minute, to cap a 62-36 win.

Roeder paced the Jaspers with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Halfkenny added 12 points, while Loutsenhizer had 10 points, six boards, five assists and three steals.  Skrec tallied eight points to go along with four assists, and Toni-Ann Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) grabbed five rebounds.  Nadia Peters (Bronx, N.Y.) came off the bench for the second straight game and recorded three steals.  Manhattan shot 35 percent (21-of-60) from the field, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from downtown.  The Jaspers were almost perfect at the charity stripe, going 14-for-15 (93.3 percent).

Quiana Porter had a double-double for Saint Peter's, notching 10 points and 13 rebounds (10 offensive).  She also registered a pair of blocks.  Jesika Holmes also tallied 10 points, while Aziza May led the Peahens with three assists and Kristal Edwards collected three steals.  Saint Peter's outrebounded Manhattan 43-38, including a 21-14 edge on the offensive glass.  The Peahens shot 28.1 percent (16-of-57) from the field, but went just 1-for-12 (8.3 percent) from three-point range and 3-for-8 (37.5 percent) at the free throw line.

Manhattan sits in fourth place in the MAAC at the midway point of conference play.  The Jaspers begin a three-game homestand on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Siena (6-17, 4-6 MAAC).  Manhattan will celebrate "National Girls & Women In Sport Day" during the opener of a basketball doubleheader at Draddy Gymnasium.  Following the women's game, the Manhattan men will host Marist at 8 p.m.
