RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan Men's Golf team took part in two separate tournaments this weekend, finishing third and 11th in each respectively. On Friday, five golfers competed in the St. Joseph's Fall Invitational combing to place third out of five schools with a 329 team score. Then, the team participated in the Northeast Intercollegiate Golf Championships (NEIGC) a completed the two-day event in 11th place out of 15 teams.
The St. Joseph's Fall Invitational took place at Spring Lake Golf Club in Middle Island, N.Y. and included schools such as Centenary College, Farmingdale State, Purchase, and host St. Joseph's. Mike Shutsky led the Jaspers in the one-round tournament finishing seventh with a five-over 77. Marc Delzio also placed in the top-10 with a ten-over 82 finishing tied for eighth. Both Chris Critelli and Jonathan Feuer completed their rounds with an 83 (11 over par) while Paul Toohey shot an 84, twelve over par for the round. As a team, the Jaspers finished with a 329 score behind Centenary (325) and Farmingdale State (328) for a third place finish.
The NEIGC was played at Timberlin Golf Club in Trumbull, Conn. and featured squads from across the region including St. Anslem, American International, Franklin Pierce, and LeMoyne. After posting a 327 on day one, the Jaspers combined to improve their score by nine strokes and finish at 318 for a combined 645 score.
Matt Creamer posted the low score for Manhattan on both days with an 81 on day one and a 74 on day two and finished 18th out of a field of 75 golfers. Chris Calabro also improved his scores dropping four strokes from an 81 on day one to 77 on day two. Senior Pat Bibaud shot a combined 165 which included a ten over 82 on day one and an 83 on day two. Mike Shutsky shot an 84 on both days of competition while Robert Kehoe finished with a 171 score including an 83 on day one.
The Jaspers will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Susquehanna Valley Country Club in Selinsgrove, Pa. for the Susquehanna Fall Golf Invitational.
