Jaspers Fall to San Diego

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The University of San Diego Torrero's scored in 34th minute of the game before adding three more goals in the second half to defeat the Manhattan Jaspers 4-0 on Sunday. The game was the final match of the Fourth Annual Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament.

The Jaspers (0-4-0) were held quiet all game long on offense, mustering up just five total shots with only two on goal. Christopher Lands made the start for Manhattan and gave up just one goal on three shots in the first half. That lone goal was scored by USD's Eli Galbraith-Knapp in the 34th minute, when Christian Duke centered the ball from the left to Galbraith-Knapp who tapped in the goal from six yards out.

The score would remain 1-0 in to the second half before Patrick Wallen sent a long pass up the field to Connor McFadden who beat new goalkeeper George Ellis one-on-one for the second goal of the game in the 55th minute. The Torreros would add two more goals in the next fifteen minutes off solid feeds to take the 4-0 victory.

There was physical play on both sides of the ball throughout as three Manhattan players received yellow cards in Erik Montinard (32nd minute), Carlo Giachino (73rd minute) and Jake Scavetta (85th minute). The Jaspers were outshot 23-5 in the contest inlcuidng 16-4 in the first half. They did however control the corner kicks taking four to San Diego's one.

Both Lucas Pilar da Silva and Jake Donowick were named to the All-Tournament team on Sunday night.

Manhattan will next be in action at home of Friday Sept. 16 as they host St. Francis of NY at 4 p.m. The game is the home opener for the men's squad and kicks off a double-header with the women's soccer team who hosts Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
