TODAY'S GAME
The Lady Jaspers (15-6, 7-3 MAAC) put their three-game winning streak on the line this afternoon with a matchup against Siena (8-12, 6-4 MAAC). Manhattan completed the first Buffalo sweep in program history with a 59-53 win at Niagara on Sunday afternoon, while the Saints have dropped four of their last five, including a 60-30 loss at Marist on Monday night. Following the women's game, the Manhattan and Siena men's teams will square off at 7 p.m.
THE LADY JASPERS
Manhattan (15-6, 7-3 MAAC) wraps up its three-game Upstate New York road trip looking for its fourth straight win. On Sunday, the Lady Jaspers notched a 59-53 victory at Niagara to wrap up the first Buffalo sweep in program history. Senior guard Abby Wentworth had 22 points against Niagara and leads the MAAC in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game. She also leads the league in assists (4.5 apg) and ranks ninth nationally in steals (3.3 spg). Junior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer contributes 8.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while freshman guard/forward Monica Roeder tallies 7.5 points per outing. Junior forward Nadia Peters leads the Lady Jaspers with 6.1 boards per contest. She also ranks second in the MAAC in blocks (1.5 bpg) and third in the league in steals (2.6 spg). The Lady Jaspers open a three-game homestand with a matchup against Canisius on Sunday.
THE SAINTS
After starting the season 5-0 in MAAC play, Siena (8-12, 6-4 MAAC) has dropped four of its last five. The Saints are coming off a 60-30 loss at conference-leading Marist on Monday night. Senior forward Serena Moore ranks second in the MAAC in both scoring and rebounding. She averages 13.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Moore also leads the team with 1.4 blocks per game and has a field goal percentage of .414. Junior guard/forward Maja Gerlyng is the only other Saint averaging in double figures with 11.0 points per game. Junior guard/forward Cristina Centeno contributes 9.7 points per contest and is shooting .442 from three-point range. She also averages a team-best 1.1 steals per game and hands out 2.0 assists per outing. Senior guard Missy Ramsey leads the Saints with 2.1 assists per game. Siena hosts Niagara on Sunday before embarking on a four-game road trip.
SERIES HISTORY
Siena notched a 51-44 victory at Draddy Gymnasium on Jan. 4 and has won two straight against the Lady Jaspers. This is the 50th meeting between the schools, and the Saints lead the all-time series 32-17. The Lady Jaspers have lost four straight games at the Times Union Center, site of four of the last five MAAC Tournaments, since an 89-52 victory over Rider in the first round of the 2006 event.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME
The Lady Jaspers made program history at the Gallagher Center on Sunday afternoon. With a 59-53 victory over Niagara, Manhattan completed the first sweep of the Buffalo trip in program history. In a contest that featured seven ties and 16 lead changes, neither side led by more than six the entire way. Niagara led 26-22 before Monica Roeder drained a three-pointer late in the first half to trim Manhattan's deficit to one, 26-25, at intermission. The Lady Jaspers pulled in front 48-42 midway through the second half, but Niagara responded with an 8-2 run to tie it at 50-50. However, Maggie Blair sank a trey on the next possession to put Manhattan back in front, 53-50, and the Lady Jaspers held on for a hard-fought 59-53 triumph. Abby Wentworth finished with a game-high 22 points, and Nadia Peters added 14 points.
