Manhattan (5-21, 3-12 MAAC)
Manhattan has won two of its last five games and is coming off an 84-81 victory over Siena on Sunday at Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers had their top scoring performance of the year and shot a season-best 50.9% (28-55) from the field. Manhattan erupted for 51 points in the second half, shooting a hot 57.7% (15-26) from the field, both figures are season-highs for a period.
Jaspers' sophomore guard George Beamon averaged 19.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists over Manhattan's three games last week. Beamon had a career performance against Siena as he exploded for 35 points shooting 12-for-19 from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. The Roslyn, N.Y native leads the Jaspers in scoring and ranks third in the MAAC averaging 15.7 points per contest. He has 23 double-digit scoring efforts in 26 appearances this season.
Kidani Brutus is also coming off a career performance against the Saints registering 20 points in the contest. Brutus matched a career-high with five 3-pointers, and then he buried five clutch free-throws in the last 1:14 to hold off Siena. Brutus ranks seventh in the MAAC with 46 3-pointers this season and he leads Manhattan shooting 37.4% from beyond the arc. The Bronx native has picked up the Jaspers' point guard duties the last two contests in the absence of freshman Michael Alvarado. During this stretch he is averaging 15.0 points and 3.5 assists per game. Brutus is shooting 50% (9-for-18) from the field and 53.8% (7-13) from 3-point territory.
Manhattan big man Demetrius Jemison is averaging nearly a double-double in the last three games, posting 10.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. Jemison, a 6'8" forward from Alabama, has started all 17 appearances and he leads the team with 8.9 rebounds per game. In the Jaspers first meeting with Iona last Monday, Jemison tallied his fourth double-double of the season registering 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Iona (16-10, 10-5 MAAC)
The Gaels are riding a three game winning streak, which began with a victory over the Jaspers last Monday. Iona picked up a 69-65 victory over Siena on Friday, and then took down Marist 85-70 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.
Junior transfer Mike Glover is the MAAC scoring leader averaging 19.1 points this season, while also shooting a league best 60.5% from the field. The 6'7" 215-pound forward stands second in the conference with 10.2 rebounds per contest.
Gaels' point guard Scott Machado is among the nation's leaders in assists harboring a 7.7 average per game. Machado, a junior from Queens, is second on the team with a 13.7 points per game average.
Sophomore guard Kyle Smyth is the Gaels' top shooting threat beyond the arc. Smyth has 60 3-point field goals this season and he has averaged 10.5 points per game.
Iona leads the MAAC in scoring offense averaging 78.7 points per game. The Gaels have shot 46.5% from the field this season.
