NEW HAVEN, Conn. - While most of the Manhattan College men's and women's indoor track & field teams kicked off the 2011 indoor campaign at Thursday's Manhattan College Opener, a few Jaspers waited until Saturday to begin the season.  The wait was well worth it, as Cara Rostant (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Heidy Palacios (Yonkers, N.Y.) posted ECAC-qualifying times at the Yale Season Opener at Coxe Cage.

Rostant easily won the 400 meters, and her time of 55.83 seconds was one of the best in the nation on this opening weekend of indoor competition.  Also qualifying for the ECAC Championships with an impressive first-place showing was Palacios, who notched a time of 1:15.13 to win the 500 meters by nearly three seconds.  In the 200 meters, Ashley Bowman (Elmont, N.Y.) finished fourth in a time of 25.58 seconds (just 0.03 behind the winner), which qualified her for the Metropolitan Championships.

On the men's side, Abdias Myrtil (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) took third in the 200 with a Met-qualifying time of 22.46 seconds.

Up next for Manhattan is the two-day Brother Jasper Invitational at Draddy Gymnasium.  The weight throw, pole vault, heptathlon and pentathlon will take place on Friday, while the rest of the competition begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
