Scouting Report

Manhattan (3-15, 1-6 MAAC)

Manhattan snatched its first MAAC win of the season on Monday against Niagara, 51-49 at Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers play five of their next six games on the road, beginning on Thursday at Loyola.

The Jaspers return to Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday for a live MSG Network broadcast at 12 p.m. against Saint Peter's, before embarking on a challenging road series at Fairfield (Jan. 28), Marist (Jan. 30), Siena (Feb. 4) and Iona (Feb. 7). The Jaspers contests with the Red Foxes and Gaels will also air live on MSG Network.

Sophomore guard George Beamon is coming off his 15th double-digit scoring performance in 17 appearances this season. Beamon is one of only three players in the MAAC who ranks in the top-10 of the conference in scoring and rebounding. Beamon is fifth in the league with a 15.2 scoring average and seventh with 7.0 rebounds per game. He joins 2010-2011 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Ryan Rossiter (Siena) and Iona's Mike Glover on this list.

Freshman forward Rhamel Brown tallied his fourth straight 10-rebound performance against the Purple Eagles. It helped the Jaspers dominate the boards 42-24. Manhattan's +18 rebounding advantage was their largest of the season. Brown has been a force on the glass as he is third in the league averaging 8.7 rebounds, and he leads the conference with 4.6 offensive boards per game. Brown is also the MAAC's blocks leader with 43 on the year, which ranks seventh in Manhattan's single season history.

Demetrius Jemison has started the last nine games since receiving a graduate transfer waiver from the NCAA on Dec. 10. Jemison is averaging 10.2 points and 8.1 rebounds. He has grabbed 10+ rebounds in three of his last four appearances, and he is shooting 43% from the field and 78.6% at the free-throw line.

Freshman point guard Michael Alvarado missed the first meeting with Loyola on Jan. 7 with an injury. However, the Bronx native is back in the Jaspers' starting line up, playing in the last two contests. Alvarado has started all 15 appearances this season, averaging 11.3 points and 3.3 assists. Alvarado, the Jaspers' leading free-throw shooter (80.5%), buried three free-throws in the final minute to seal the victory over Niagara on Monday.

Loyola (8-9, 4-3 MAAC)

Loyola has won four of its last five games, all MAAC contests. The Greyhounds are tied for third in the league with three other teams who boast a 4-3 conference mark. Loyola has won its last two home games and is 5-3 in Reitz Arena this season.

The Greyhounds are coming off a 65-63 victory at Saint Peter's on Monday. Senior guard Brian Rudolph sank a floater with less than one second on the clock to give Loyola its second straight victory. Junior forward Shane Walker scored a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard J'hared Hall buried five 3-pointers in 29 minutes off the bench.

Walker is the Greyhounds top scorer this season (11.1 ppg) and he is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game. Senior guard Jamal Barney, the MAAC's 2008-09 scoring leader (18.1 ppg), has averaged 10.3 points this year.

Loyola is the third best defensive team in the conference, holding opponents to 66.9 points per game. The Greyhounds are one of the top free-throw shooting (69.8%) and 3-point shooting (33.7%) teams in the league.
