TONIGHT'S GAME
The 2010-11 regular season reaches its halfway point, as the Lady Jaspers (9-5, 1-2 MAAC) play the first of three road games in seven days tonight at Saint Peter's (1-13, 1-2 MAAC). Manhattan picked up its first MAAC victory of the season and snapped a two-game losing streak with a 71-32 home win over Niagara on Saturday. The Peahens are coming off a 76-34 loss at Marist on Saturday and have dropped two straight since topping Niagara for their only victory of the season.
THE LADY JASPERS
Manhattan (9-5, 1-2 MAAC) begins its MAAC road schedule looking to even its conference record at 2-2. The Lady Jaspers are coming off a 71-32 win over Niagara on Saturday afternoon, their largest victory since the 2000-01 season. Senior guard Abby Wentworth paces the Lady Jaspers with 13.2 points, 4.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game. She is also tied for second on the squad with 4.9 rebounds per contest. Junior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer averages 7.9 points and 4.9 boards per contest, while freshman guard/forward Monia Roeder adds 7.7 points per game and junior guard Alyssa Herrington contributes 7.6 points per outing. Junior forward Nadia Peters pulls down a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game and leads the MAAC in blocked shots (1.8 bpg). Manhattan returns to New Jersey for a matchup with Rider on Thursday afternoon, then wraps up the road trip with a visit to Fairfield on Sunday.
THE PEAHENS
Saint Peter's (1-13, 1-2 MAAC) has dropped two straight since a 59-55 victory at Niagara in its MAAC opener on Jan. 2. The Peahens are coming off a 76-34 loss to Marist on Saturday night. Junior forward Jynae Judson paces the Peahens in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.2 points and 7.4 boards per game. She is also tied for the team lead with 1.7 steals per contest. Junior forward Lauren Morris contributes 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while senior forward Charlene Riddick adds 7.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per outing. Freshman guard Aziza May has started every game and hands out 2.9 assists per contest, and senior forward Jessica Coles averages 0.9 blocks per game. Freshman guard Teresa Manigrasso records 1.7 steals per game, which is tied for the team lead. The Peahens, who were picked ninth in the MAAC Preseason Poll, continue their homestand against Iona on Thursday night before visiting Rider on Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the 69th all-time meeting between Manhattan and Saint Peter's, with the Peahens holding a 50-18 edge in the series. The schools have met once every season since Manhattan began varsity play in 1978-79. The Lady Jaspers won both matchups last season, including a 59-57 decision at the Yanitelli Center on Feb. 8, 2010. Manhattan has won five of the last seven games in the series.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME
The Lady Jaspers snapped their two-game losing streak with a 71-32 victory over Niagara at Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Manhattan broke the game open with a 20-0 run midway through the first half and held the Purple Eagles to 10.7 percent shooting in the period. The Lady Jaspers led 38-12 at halftime, then used a 10-0 run early in the second half to extend their advantage to 48-14. The lead reached as many as 42 points in the second half, and the 39-point margin of victory was Manhattan's largest since Dec. 8, 2000. Lindsey Loutsenhizer had a season-high 15 points, while Abby Wentworth tallied 14 points and Alyssa Herrington added 10. Toni-Ann Lawrence pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and Monica Roeder had a career-best eight boards.
