STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's and women's cross country teams got their 2010 seasons underway at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday morning. Both teams ran a partial squad, and each finished in third place. The men were beaten by Iona and Stony Brook, while the women trailed Quinnipiac and Stony Brook.
Manhattan's top individual runner was Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden), who took third place on the women's side. Jangsten finished the 4100-meter course in 15:37.17. Running in her first collegiate race, freshman Meghan Hayes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the second Lady Jasper across the finish line. She placed ninth in 15:55.95. Jelena Rankovic (Lazarevac, Serbia) finished 17th in a time of 16:14.92, while freshman Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) crossed the line in 16:26.51, good enough for 21st place. Manhattan's fifth scorer was Meghan Marro (Cherry Hill, N.J.), whose time of 16:34.62 placed her 24th.
On the men's side, Kevin D'Emic (Rockaway Point, N.Y.) led a 7-8-9 finish for the top three Jaspers. D'Emic's seventh-place time of 20:57.59 placed him just ahead of freshman Tom Voorhies (Syracuse, N.Y.), who ran a time of 21:08.47 in his first collegiate race. Tom Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.) completed the 6200-meter course in 21:11.20 to place ninth. Milos Vuckovic (Brus, Serbia) finished 14th in a time of 21:34.16, while Stephen Jochem (Gallup, N.M.) was Manhattan's fifth scorer. Jcohem placed 15th in 21:36.53.
Manhattan is back in action next Saturday at the Fordham Fiasco in Van Cortlandt Park.
