RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Tobias Lundgren (Alta, Sweden) is back. After taking a year off to spend time with his family in Sweden, Lundgren returned to the Manhattan College men's cross country team with a 20th place finish at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. Lundgren led the Jaspers to a 16th place team finish in a competitive field that featured 10 regionally-ranked opponents. The Manhattan women also finished 16th as a team.
Lundgren completed the 8K course in 25:49.47. Manhattan's second finisher was Kevin D'Emic (Rockaway Point, N.Y.), who finished 100th in 26:55.12. Milos Vuckovic (Brus, Serbia) grabbed 127th place in 27:20.66. Tom Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.) placed 137th in 27:31.78, while Salim Corbin (Patterson, N.J.) was Manhattan's fifth scorer, finishing 149th in a time of 27:41.74. Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) (156th, 27:54.57) and Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.) (177th, 28:40.23) rounded out the Jaspers' top seven.
As a team, Manhattan finished with 429 points (only the top seven runners from each team receive points, with five scores counting). La Salle won the team title with 93 points, while Cincinnati's Eric Finan finished in 24:48.45 to claim the individual title.
On the women's side, Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden) was Manhattan's top finisher. Jangsten placed 50th overall in a time of 23:38.18. Her time over the 6K course was one minute faster than she ran a 5K (on the same course) at this meet last year. Meghan Hayes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished 101st in 24:23.70 and Jelena Rankovic (Lazarevac, Serbia) was 114th in 24:53.82. Meghan Marro (Cherry Hill, N.J.) crossed the line 125th in a time of 25:15.77, while Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) completed her first collegiate 6K in 25:30.09, good enough for 136th place. Stephanie Dufort (Clifton Park, N.Y.) came across 155th in a time of 27:48.10.
Overall, the Lady Jaspers earned 436 points in the women's race. Kentucky edged Brown by just two points and La Salle by three to win the women's team title. Chelsea Oswald of Kentucky was the individual winner, finishing in 21:41.68.
