OTTAWA - Trailing by eight points after three quarters, the Manhattan College women's basketball team outscored the University of Ottawa 17-8 in the final period to post a 53-52 victory over the Gee-Gees at Montpetit Hall on Thursday night. With the win, the Lady Jaspers improved to 2-0 on their three-game Canadian tour.
Ottawa led 18-14 after the first quarter and held a 32-28 edge at halftime. The Gee-Gees outscored the Lady Jaspers 12-8 in the third to take a 44-36 edge into the final frame. However, Manhattan rallied, taking the lead late in the fourth quarter before holding on for the 53-52 win.
Lindsey Loutsenhizer (North Huntingdon, Pa.) and Abby Wentworth (Portland, Maine) each had 13 points to lead the Lady Jaspers, while Toni-Ann Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) added 12 points. Nadia Peters (Bronx, N.Y.) also reached double figures with 10 points.
Hannah Sunley-Paisley led Ottawa with 17 points, while Jenna Gilbert and Alex Naylor each added 11 points for the Gee-Gees.
The Lady Jaspers conclude the trip with a game against Carleton University on Friday night.
