RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team will be the second part of a doubleheader with the women's team on Friday when the Jaspers host Marist in an ESPNU televised contest live from Draddy Gymnasium. At halftime of the men's game, the Manhattan Athletic Department in conjunction with Student Government will honor Vice President of Student Life Brother Robert Berger F.S.C. for over 20 years of service to the College. Brother Robert will step down from his position at the conclusion of the academic year and will concentrate as a faculty member in the Religious Studies Department. Tip off for the women's game is 6 p.m. and the men are scheduled for 9 p.m. Fans can listen to both games live at GoJaspers.com.
Manhattan (7-15, 2-10) and Marist (1-21, 1-11) meet for the 33rd time in series history. The Jaspers have won the last eight contests against the Red Foxes at home, marking the longest active winning streak against any opponent at Draddy Gymnasium. The win streak began on Jan. 22, 2002.
The Jaspers used a season-high 20 points from Antoine Pearson and 13 more from Devon Austin '09 to secure a 73-67 victory over Marist last season in Riverdale. Manhattan dropped its first contest with the Red Foxes this year falling 72-66 at the McCann Center on Jan. 2. The Red Foxes overcame a 26 point and seven rebound effort from Jaspers' guard Rico Pickett to snap Manhattan's three game win streak in the series. Darryl Crawford added 17 points to the Jaspers effort. Marist had five players in double figures, including a team-high 13 points from Devin Price and Sam Prescott.
