RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team is back in action on Friday night when the Jaspers travel to New Rochelle for a local MAAC showdown with Iona. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Hynes Athletic Center. Fans can catch all the action live at GoJaspers.com.
Manhattan (8-16, 3-11 MAAC) and Iona (18-7, 10-4) meet for the 75th time in series history. The Gaels hold a six game advantage in the conference rivalry, and they stand with Rider as the only two MAAC members to hold an all-time winning record versus the Jaspers.
Iona edged Manhattan 56-53 in their first meeting this season on Jan. 22 in an ESPNU televised contest from Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers received a game-high 22 points from Rico Pickett and 17 points from Darryl Crawford in Manhattan's first loss at home to Iona in the last four meetings. Jaspers' freshman Mohamed Koita grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in his collegiate debut. Nine Gaels' got in the scoring column which was led by 13 points from freshman guard Rashard McGill.
The Jaspers have won two of their last three meetings with Iona in New Rochelle. Manhattan's last victory at the Hynes Athletic Center was during Barry Rohrssen's inaugural season at the helm on Jan. 12, 2007 when the Jaspers earned a 73-63 victory.
