RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan suffered its sixth one goal loss of the year as Rider (8-7-2, 4-4-0 MAAC) spoiled Senior Day with a 1-0 decision on Sunday at Gaelic Park. Prior to the match, Manhattan (4-12-1, 2-5-0) recognized seniors Alyssa Bachowski, Kara Bucci, Michelle Miyaki, Caroline Morse and Kristin Spiros for their hard work and dedication to the women's soccer program over the last four years.
The Broncs got on the board recording the only goal of the match in the 25th minute when freshman forward Bridgette Bartkowski connected with sophomore forward Abi Cottam. Bartkowski sent a cross into the box from the right side and Cottam finished with her left foot from five feet out.
Bachowski made her fifth start in goal this season and posted three saves. The Garden City, N.Y. native split halves with sophomore goalie Kara Davis who registered five saves in a scoreless second stanza.
Rider also received solid play out of its goalkeeper Alex Post who notched her fifth shutout of the year. The senior from Chalfont, Pa. made four stops in the match.
Despite a 15-6 shot disadvantage in the second half, Manhattan had some good attacking chances. The Lady Jaspers missed a pair of close opportunities to even the game midway through the period. In the 71st minute, Morse launched a shot from inside the box which was heading toward the left corner of the net, but Post made a nice diving save to redirect it wide. Thirty seconds later, junior forward Megan Lavecchia sailed a good look from the top of the box just high of the cross bar.
The Broncs outshot Manhattan 22-11 in the match. The Lady Jaspers had a 4-1 corner kick advantage.
Manhattan will complete the regular season next weekend in Western New York. The Lady Jaspers square off with Canisius on Friday at 5 p.m., and then on Sunday they take on Niagara at 12 p.m.
