Box Score
Orlando, Fla. -- The Manhattan College men's soccer team scored just 1:25 seconds into the game, but couldn't maintain the momentum, losing to host University of Central Florida Sunday 2-1 at the UCF Tournament held in Orlando, Fla.
The Jaspers got on the board very early when sophomore Christopher Holihan passed the ball to junior Sean Russell who served the ball into the box where senior Stephen Van Rossem banged the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. But UCF got back into the game on a 29th minute corner kick where Ben Hunt banged in a second effort off an assist from Nik Robson.
UCF found itself going ahead for good 10 minutes into the second half when Robson scored his second tally of the season, taking a through ball from Eduardo Jimenez and beating Jasper keeper Joseph Lorenz on a breakaway.
The Jaspers (now 1-5-1 on the season) had several chances in the second half to even the score, but just missed on a few shots from medium range.
Manhattan was outshot 27-12 on the day, with Lorenz posting 7 saves. UCF is now 3-2 on the season.
After a five-game road trip, the Jaspers return to the friendly confines of Gaelic Park Wednesday when they host the annual Battle of The Bronx match against Fordham University. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
