ALBANY, N.Y. ? The Manhattan men's basketball team had its three game win streak snapped falling 93-69 to Siena (20-6, 14-1 MAAC) on Thursday before a sold out crowd at the Times Union Center. Junior guard Darryl Crawford led the Jaspers with 22 points and Chris Smith followed with 17 on 7-for-12 shooting. MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Kenny Hasbrouck lifted the Saints with 23 points after being honored during a Senior Night ceremony.
Siena surged out to a 21-6 advantage book ended by Ronald Moore's 3-pointer four seconds into the game and then Hasbrouck's trey at the 12:52 mark in the first half. Manhattan (14-11, 8-7 MAAC) tediously responded with a brief rally behind three consecutive lay-ups from senior center Herve Banogle, which cut the deficit to 10 points three times during a minute span with less than six minutes before intermission.
Junior swingman Edwin Ubiles scored seven of the Saints' next 11 points which propelled Siena into the break with a 47-31 lead. Ubiles finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Crawford was responsible for 14 of the Jaspers' first half points. He converted two free-throw attempts in the contest which extended his steak to 19 consecutive attempts without a miss. Crawford added six rebounds and four assists to his stat line.
The Saints led by double-figures the entire second half and extended their consecutive home win streak to 17 games.
Smith anchored the Jaspers rebounding effort with nine boards, slightly missing a double-double over 35 minutes of action. Sophomore forward Laurence Jolicoeur (10) scored in double-figures for the fourth straight game and was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Siena prospered on 16 Manhattan turnovers, converting them into 24 points. Saints guard Clarence Jackson had 21 points and four 3-pointers coming off the bench.
The Jaspers shot 41.8% (28-67) from the field, while Siena shot 51.5% (34-66) from the floor.
Manhattan returns to action on Sunday versus Rider in Riverdale. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m. Prior to the contest the Manhattan College Athletic Department will honor its senior class.
