Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Piscataway, N.J. (April 24, 2008) ? In a rescheduled non-conference game, the Manhattan College Softball team fell to La Salle University today 1-0 and 8-6.  Freshman Allison Smith pitched 6.0 innings in the first game, giving up one earned run in the bottom of the sixth while striking out eight batters.  In the second game, a five run first inning for the Lady Jaspers proved not to be enough as Manhattan saw another lead diminish.

In the first game, Smith pitched strongly as both defenses were showing their strengths.  The game went scoreless until the bottom of the sixth after the second batter of the inning for La Salle reached on an error and was singled home in the next at-bat.

That was the only run scored in the game, as the Lady Jaspers could not muster up a comeback and fell 1-0.

The second game, the offense was not shy as the Lady Jaspers put up five runs in the top of the first.  The Lady J's got through all nine batters which included RBI's from Ashley Rampino and Kara Cokeley.  Manhattan led 5-0 until the top of the fourth where Amanda Genovese came around to score and make it a 6-0 game.

The Manhattan pitching was once again going strong as Rampino pitched four innings of scoreless ball.   But in the bottom of the fifth, La Salle started to mount a comeback as they scored four runs.  But still, the large Manhattan lead held up after five innings, they were leading 6-4.

But La Salle struck again in the bottom of the sixth to complete their comeback with another four run inning.  The Lady J's were on their heels and could overcome the momentum as the fell 8-6.

Rampino finished the day 2-4 with one RBI and a run scored while Kristina Walraven put up a 1-2 performance in the second game.

The Lady Jaspers will return to action on Saturday, April 26 when they will travel to take on MAAC opponent Siena College.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
