Today's Game:
The Lady Jaspers will take on the Iona College Gaels today in their last regular season game. In their previous meeting this season, Manhattan came away with a 82-57 victory at Draddy Gymansium as the team shot 53% from the field led by
Gabrielle Cottrell's 22 point performance. Manhattan leads the all-time series 38-18 and they will be coming into their 57th match-up in the programs history. In their first game this season,
Aubrie Dellinger finished the game with 15 points alongside
Kelly Regan's 14 for the three Lady J's in double figures. As a team, Manhattan went 9-9 from the free throw line that game, marking 28 consecutive free throws made, including the game before. Iona has won the last five of six, with the Lady Jaspers winning the previous seven in a row.
"Four"some:
Dellinger, Nwafili, Flood and Cottrell gained valuable experience as freshman, appearing in 25 games together. In the next two years the injury bug bit the quartet consistently as the four only appeared in 14 games as sophomores and just six when they were juniors. This season they have been healthy and that has equated to theri succes on the court as they Lady J's have improved to a 14-12 record.
Making History:
For the first time in Manhattan College Women's Basketball History, two players have made over 50 three pointers in one season.
Gabrielle Cottrell and Aurbie Dellinger both surpassed the mark on February 3, when they played Loyola College at Draddy. They are currently 2 and 3 in the conference for three point shooting.
From Down Town:
Manhattan is currently 1st in the MAAC in three point shooting percentage as they are shooting an outstanding .384 from behind the arc. Senior Aubrie Dellinger is currently 2nd in the conference in three point percentage and 14th in the NCAA with a 43.6%. Fellow senior Gabrielle Cottrell is 4th on that list with a .419 percentage and 21st in the nation. Manhattan is ranked 13th in the NCAA with a 38.4% three point field goal percentage as a team.
Flood Warning:
Senior
Caitlin Flood has scored a total 1,362 points in her career. She has jumped to the 5th all-time scorer for Manhattan. Flood passed the career milestone in a 76-51 win over Howard University in the Brown University Tournament. Flood is the first Lady Jasper to join the 1,000 point club since Rosalee Mason did it in 2004 and the 16th in Manhattan College Women's Basketball history.
History Vs. Iona:
The Lady Jaspers are 38-18 against Iona in the program's history. Iona has won the last five of six contests, but Manhattan took the previous seven consecutive games before that.
History vs. MAAC: The Lady J's have a 197-211 record while playing MAAC opponents. Last season they lost a second round game to MAAC Champion, Marist College 42-55. Manhattan finished 7-11 last year in conference play and is currently 9-6.
On the Horizon:
After the conclusion of the reguar season, Manhattan will look towards the MAAC Championship Tournament from March 6-9. The Lady Jaspers took a second round exit last year to defending MAAC Champion Marist College and have a 7-4 since winning the MAAC Title in the 2002-03 season.
