Lady Jaspers Sign Two For 2009-10 Season

Women's Basketball Manhattan Athletic Department

Women's Basketball Senior Day Against Fairfield Tomorrow

Today's Game: The Lady Jaspers will take on the Fairfield University Stags in conference play. This game will mark the 66th meeting between the two teams. Fairfield holds a slight advantage in the all-time series, leading 34-31. Manhattan is looking to revenge a loss to the Stags earlier this season. In that loss, the Lady J's scored 42 points in the second half, but could not overcome their deficit. Caitlin Flood led all scorers with 20 points in that game, going 6-11 from the field and shooting a perfect 8-8 from the line. Fairfield has won the last two contests against Manhattan, but the Lady J's took the previous three from the Stags. Flood is averaging 15.3 points per game against Fairfield in her last three games against them.

History Vs. Fairfield: The Lady Jaspers are 31-34 against Fairfield all-time. They are coming into their 66th meeting as Farifield has won last two contests against Manhattan. But the Lady J's took the previous three from the Stags.

History vs. MAAC: The Lady J's have 197-209 record while playing MAAC opponents. Last season they lost a second round game to MAAC Champion Marist College, 55-42. Manhattan finished 7-11 last year in conference play and is currently 5-1 this season.

Making History: For the first time in Manhattan College Women's Basketball History, two players have made over 50 three pointers in one season. Gabrielle Cottrell and Aubrie Dellinger both surpassed the mark on February 3, when they played Loyola College at Draddy. They are currently 2 and 3 in the conference for three point shooting.

"Four"some: Dellinger, Nwafili, Flood and Cottrell gained valuable experience as freshman, appearing in 25 games together. In the next two years the injury bug bit the quartet consistently as the four only appeard in 14 games as sophomores and just six when they were juniors. This season they have been healthy and that has equated to their success on the court as the Lady J's have improved to a 9-5 record.

From Down Town: Manhattan is currently 1st in the MAAC in three point shooting percentage as they are shooting an outstanding .386 from behind the arc. Senior Aubrie Dellinger is currently 2nd in the conference in three point percentage and 10th in the NCAA with a 44.3%. Fellow senior Gabrielle Cottrell is 3rd on that list with a .432 percentage and 24th in the nation. Manhattan is ranked 13th in the NCAA with a 38.1% three point field goal percentage as a team.

Chasing Records: Currently, seniors Aubrie Dellinger and Gabrielle Cottrell are on pace to break Manhattan College's singel season record for three pointers made. The record is set at 68, but Cottrell has tallie 63 so far and Dellinger is not far behind with 58.

Charity Stripe: The Lady Jaspers have been perfect from the free throw line in two consecutive games this year. They have hit 28 consecutive free throws going 19-19 against Fairfield and 9-9 against Iona. The streak came to end against Niagara, but not before the Lady J's hit 31 consecutive three pointers.

On the Horizon: Coming down the home stretch of the MAAC season, the Lady Jaspers will travel to take on Marist College on Sunday, Febraury 24. Marist is currently ranked #23 in the country and undefeated in MAAC play. In their last meeting, the Lady J's narrowly missed a chance to beat the Red Foxes and fell at Draddy, 61-59.
