Lady Jaspers Fall at Fairfield in Season Finale

RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Sophomore forward Caroline Morse gave the Manhattan women's soccer team (7-8-3, 4-3-2 MAAC) an early advantage with her third goal of the season, but Fairfield (14-4-2, 7-2-0 MAAC) rallied for three unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 decision in Connecticut on Senior Day. Lady Stags midfielder Ahna Johnson scored two goals, including the game winner in the 63rd minute. With the loss, Manhattan falls short of qualifying for the 2008 MAAC Tournament.

 

Morse gave the Lady Jaspers a one goal edge in the 29th minute when she settled a loose ball and blasted a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out. It marked her eighth point of the season.

 

In the 63rd minute, Jasmin Corniel tallied the equalizer when she sent a shot on the ground past Manhattan goalkeeper Alyssa Bachowski. Bachowski recorded two saves over 90 minutes of action.

 

The squads entered intermission locked at 1-1.

 

Johnson unleashed two second half goals on the Lady Jaspers. With 62:19 on the clock, she blasted a header into the upper right corner which proved to be the game winning score. In the 89th minute she connected on another header which was assisted by Adrienne Boyer.

 

Manhattan completes the 2008 campaign with a 7-8-3 overall record and 4-3-2 league mark.
