Manhattan Cruises Past Pace

RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Manhattan used 17 points from junior guard Darryl Crawford en route to a 86-58 victory over Pace in the Jaspers final exhibition game this evening at Draddy Gymnasium. Devon Austin and Andrew Gabriel contributed 15 points apiece to the winning effort. Manhattan's next assignment is its season opener on Saturday afternoon at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

 

Crawford completed a three point play on the Jaspers first possession and Manhattan never looked back. Gabriel led Manhattan into intermission with a 38-26 advantage, behind his 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting. The Jaspers poured in 48 second half points as Austin's shooting touch came alive.

 

Austin had 12 points over the final 20 minutes and shot 5-for-8 from the floor.

 

The Jaspers were dominant on the boards outrebounding Pace 62-36. Manhattan's 19 offensive rebounds resulted in 20 second chance points.

 

Brandon Adams and Herve Banogle garnered a game-high 10 rebounds. Crawford collected eight and dished out four assists.

 

Junior guard Patrick Bouli was efficient at the point finishing with five assists and one turnover. He was 2-for-3 from the field for five points over 23 minutes of action.

 

Antoine Pearson delivered eight points and four assists, while Laurence Jolicoeur collected seven rebounds as both players sparked the Jaspers coming off the bench. Local product Nick Walsh buried a pair of 3-pointers over 14 minutes in a reserve role.

 

Walk-ons Victor Jackson and Marty Higgins found their way into the scoring column for the second straight contest. Higgins knocked down a mid-range jumper and Jackson sank a pair of free-throws in the final minute.

 

Manhattan shot 42.3% (42.3%) from the floor and held Pace to 30.0% (21-70) shooting. The Jaspers were 17-22 (77.3%) from the free-throw line.

 

Freshman guard Ryan Woods carried Pace with 16 points (6-for-12). He was 4-for-6 from downtown.
