Today's Game:
The Lady Jaspers will take on Niagara University today in conference play. This will mark the 37th times these two programs will meet with the all-time series tied, 18-18. Manhattan has the last laugh as they eliminated the Purple Eagles in the first round of the MAAC Tournament last season, 57-53. The Lady J's have won the last two meetings with Niagara and the previous 4 out of 5. Junior
Kelly Regan caused problems for Niagara last season as she averaged 13.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game against the Purple Eagles last season. Senior
Caitlin Flood has also found success against Niagara as she averaged 18.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in the 2006-07 season.
Last Time Out:
The Lady Jaspers fell in a close one at Canisius College, 51-48. A last second desperation three could not find the bottom of the net as Manhattan came back from being down as much as 15 points in the second half. Senior Gabbrielle Cottrell led all Lady Jaspers scorers with 12 points as both Caitlin Flood and Abby Wentworth narrowly missed double-doubles. Flood had 10 points and nine rebounds alongside Wentworth's 10 points and eight rebounds, respectively.
"Four"some:
Dellinger, Nwafili, Flood and Cottrell gained valuable experience as freshman, appearing in 25 games together. In the next two years the injury bug bit the quartet consistently as the four only appeard in 14 games as sophomores and just six when they were juniors. This season they have been healthy and that has equated to their success on the court as the Lady J's have improved to a 6-3 record
History Vs. Niagara:
The Lady Jaspers are 18-18 all-time against the Purple Eagles. The two teams split in their two regular seaosn meetings last year. But Manhattan has the last laugh as they eliminated Niagara in the first round of the MAAC Tournament last year, 57-53.
History vs. MAAC:
The Lady J's have 194-205 record while playing MAAC opponents. Last season they lost a second round game to MAAC Champion Marist College, 55-42. Manhattan finished 7-11 last year in conference play and is currently 5-1 this season.
On the Horizon: With MAAC play continuing, the Lady Jaspers will return home to play Canisius College for the second time this season. Manhattan will look to revenge their recent loss to the Golden Griffins on January 25 as they fell in Buffalo, 51-48. Canisius leads the all-time series, 25-16.
