Riverdale, N.Y. (September 11, 2007)- A first half Long Island University penalty kick was the decider as the men's soccer team fell to Long Island University in this season's first home match for the Jaspers at Gaelic Park.
After an evenly played 35 minutes, a Long Island University striker was taken down in the box with Peter Huijen converting the ensuing penalty kick. During the first half, both teams missed good opportunities with Manhattan junior midfielder Josh Swett's first minute shot going just wide and a LIU attempt hitting the crossbar midway through the first half.
The second half was more of the same, with both teams missing good chances, including one from point blank range by sophomore midfielder Paul Rolston.
Both teams had seven shots on the day. Jaspers goalkeeper John Ciano had just one save.
The Jaspers, now 0-4, will next host Philadelphia University this Saturday at Gaelic Park. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
