Baltimore, Md. (February 8, 2007)?The first day of the MAAC Swimming Championships started out on a high note for Manhattan when six Lady Jaspers were officially named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, and as the day wore on, it would only get better for the Kelly Green and White. Manhattan's 200 freestyle relay set a new school record en route to becoming the first relay squad in program history to achieve All-MAAC status.
With freshman Megan Goldrick leading off, followed by sophomore Megan O'Keefe, freshman Catherine Chan, and junior anchor Maura McGowan, the ladies posted a time of 1:42.42, which qualifies them for the upcoming ECAC Championships. McGowan swam the fastest split of the four members by touching in at 25.41s.
McGowan, who has consistently anchored the team's relay squads throughout the season, also had some success on the individual side by qualifying for the consolation finals of the 500 freestyle with a preliminary time of 25.74s. The junior from Michigan, however, was unable to better that time in the finals as she posted a 26.03 to finish 16th overall.
Day two of the championships begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9.
