New York, N.Y. (February 23, 2007)?A year ago, Tiina Magi had yet to triple jump 12.00 meters in a Manhattan uniform and had just locked up the MAAC title with a mark of 11.58m.  Two triple jump school records and 12 months later, Magi continued her tremendous progression by reaching the NCAA provisional qualifying standard as Manhattan Track and Field's top performer at Friday night's NYU Fast Track Invitational.

In winning her signature event, Magi set a new school record, jumping 12.70m in what was her best performance thus far this indoor season.  The new seasonal best break Magi's own program record of 12.50m set at the Manhattan Opener on December 1.

A week after winning three out of the four jumping events and being named the women's Field Performer of the Meet at the MAAC Indoor Championships, Magi was clearly the class of the triple jump field on Friday night as she won by over one meter.  Angela Jenkins of Army was the runner-up at 11.64m.  Manhattan junior Shanelle Lawrence took fourth place in the event at 11.19m.

Although Magi's mark of 12.70m is now a program record, it is not her best performance in a Jasper uniform.  The senior from Estonia jumped 12.98m outdoors at the NJ International Meet in Colts Neck, N.J. on June 10, 2006.

In other action on what was a light night of competition for the Jaspers, freshman distance runner Matt Kaftanski set a new personal record in the 1000m PR 2:32.90 to claim ninth place amongst 33 finishers.

Next up for Manhattan are the IC4A/ECAC Championships, which commence in Boston, Mass. on March 2.
