VOLLEYBALL DEFEATED BY LOYOLA, 3-0

Riverdale, N.Y. ? Manhattan lost its first of two MAAC games this weekend to Loyola College, 3-0.  Freshman Diane Strutner contributed 10 kills and 14 digs for the Lady J's.

The Lady Jaspers traveled to Maryland to take on MAAC opponent Loyola to open up their weekend.  The beginning of the first game was a close battle as both teams were fighting tough.  Manhattan found itself down 20-15 towards the middle of the game.  But the Lady J's fought back and scored the next five points to tie the game at 20.  From this point on, the game saw four ties as both teams battled back and forth.  In the end, Loyola ousted the Lady Jaspers to win the game 30-28.  At the start of the second game, the Lady J's found themselves in an early deficit, down 10-5.  Coming from behind, Manhattan tied the game at 12, and then soon took the lead.  Towards the end of the game, both teams found themselves deadlocked at 28, but Loyola edged away and won the game 31-29.  Facing another loss, Manhattan fell behind early in the game.  The Greyhounds would not let their lead slip away as they would hold on to win the third game, 30-25 and the match 3-0.

Freshman Diane Strutner and Junior Sherryta Stokes both tied for a team high 10 kills for the Manhattan offense.  Junior Andrea Reiff contributed 13 kills to anchor the Lady J's defense.

Manhattan will travel to New Rochelle to take on local MAAC rival Iona College tomorrow, October 7 at 3:00 PM.
